While giving haircut to a Golden Retriever, the owners tends to snip it in a manner that can prominently highlight their fascinating lines at the same time camouflage other defects. The male dogs have lion like hair all around the neck covering up to the chest. Although that looks wonderful, when the dog enters water frequently, the area around the neck dries after a long time giving rise to skin problems like eczema. Due to this they start stinking around that part.
On the other hand when golden retrievers love to be around the bushes theses long hairs can be of great help in protecting them from injuries. Therefore, the best areas to snip are the neck, chest the front legs starting from the top till the toes, below the paws and also the tail. A professional would just need very few tools like a comb, brush and sharp pair of scissors for cutting and sharp snipping scissors.
The first step is to comb the hair properly fluffing out the compact area. While combing, you must remove the weeds or any other strange object that you come across. Now look for the part that has the maximum volume of hair especially near the chest and neck. Remove them straight away with the scissors. Next step is to give borders around the area of the ears. For this you would require a straight scissor. Using this same scissor you can also give a wonderful cut on the tail portion. Ensure that hair in that area is at least the width of your hand.
