  • Churchill was born as Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill to Lord Randolph Churchill and Lady Jeanette Jerome in November 30, 1874 in Oxford shire.
  • Churchill was actually born in a cloakroom when his mother suddenly experienced labor pains while at a ball, a few weeks before expected. His mother could only reach up to the ladies cloakroom when with the help of others, she gave birth to Churchill.
  • He was a master orator even though he was a target of speech impairment as a child. In fact it was his speeches which acted as some source of inspiration during the tough times of World War II.
  • Churchill was an accomplished writer, having written three books on politics and philosophy before he was 26 years of age.
  • He received the Nobel Prize for Literature in the year 1953, and is the only British Prime Minister to win so.
  • Churchill owned about 570 paintings of his own even though he did not like to show them off often, having hosted only a few of his art shows during his entire lifetime.
  • As a student, Churchill hated studies and was an average scholar. He was more of a rebel as known from Virginia Cowles in Winston Churchill: the Era and the Man.
  • He was the first person to be recognized as the Honorary Citizen of the United States.
