Many people are using I Ching not only as a technique for divination, but also as a manual to help themselves. I Ching, also known as the Book of Changes, is an ancient Chinese text that has been translated into English in order to allow non-Chinese speakers to interpret it. The most popular English I Ching interpretation is the one done by Wilhelm Baynes and this translation contains majority of the original text. Other translations have somewhat summarized the text and changed the language to suit the understanding of the lay people.
While I Ching interpretation can be used for many things, it is usually used to get advice on life situations and also as a way to predict and foretell the future. The questions that are posed to I Ching are broad and usually people pose questions that are more relevant for the present rather than the future. Basically the interpretation of I Ching allows you to understand the events currently happening in your life and how to move forward.
Usually, in order to interpret I Ching, you would first have to toss coins or yarrow sticks. This will result in the formation of a hexagram having 6 lines. There will be 3 broken lines and 3 solid lines forming the hexagram. Thereafter, you would have to consult the I Ching in order to interpret what the hexagram means. It is important to remember, that when using 6 coins, you will also get changing lines and these will have an impact on the overall reading. There are people who do not interpret the changing lines as they do not want to complicate the readings even further. However, an I Ching interpretation is incomplete without taking into consideration the changing lines.
Once the hexagram is formed and you have made a note of it, it is time to interpret it. This can be done by referring to the I Ching and then reading the relevant text. The text will give you the meaning of the hexagram and offer guidance on how to proceed further. Basically, when you refer to the I Ching, you will get a meaning as a whole of the hexagram followed by understanding the changing lines and each individual line of hexagram. This is the way I Ching interpretation is done if the person wants to get an accurate reading and guidance on how to proceed further for a given situation.
