Murray lawn mowers have two cycle engine that are easy to fix. These are well-built mowers and do not cost a bomb. The mower comes in variety of horse powers and sizes, and most of them have the same basic components and parts.
The most common problem that one faces is that the lawn mower not running. For this, first of all, check out the connection of the spark plug. With the help of a circular metal filer or coiled piece of sand paper, you can clean up the surface of the spark plug. This will help in better contact with the spark plug lead, which often gets dirty due to accumulation of excess of oil and dirt. Also, make sure that the spark gap between the center and side electrodes below the plug is clean.
The next task is to check the air filter. When found dirty and black with accumulation of oil, you would have to clean it up with the help of soap or some degreaser. After cleaning, allow it to dry out completely. Never ever put a wet air filter into the mower. After this check the carburetor region, which is directly below the air filter, for any amount of dirt, tiny twigs or pieces of grass. Clean out any dirt and debris you find.
Having checked all these things, now search for the fuel line between the gas tank and the carburetor. Ensure that the gas is flowing without any hindrance into the carburetor. Any interruption in this passage might result in starting problems. Check the fuel tank. If it is contaminated, drain it out completely. Clean the tank and let it dry thoroughly. The contaminated gasoline should be disposed off. The oil levels in the sumps should also be checked. It might go down completely hindering the proper function. Check in the owner’s manual for the amount and type of oil that should be poured into the oil sump. Safety bars and the solenoid should be checked for proper functioning. You may have to adjust the cable tension a little bit to initiate the proper function.
All these things should help you fix a Murray lawn mower. However, if the land mower still does not work, then you may have to take to a repair shop.
