Chlamydia is an infection which is transmitted through sexual intercourse. It can be easily treated with the antibiotics. If it is not treated, it leads to infertility. The symptoms are unnoticeable in case of Chlamydia and due to this many times infected people do not seek treatment and this can lead to many other problems.
The survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that one teenage girl and women out of 20 is infected with Chlamydia, and nearly 2 percent of the US population, which includes men and women, has the infection. Every year, 2.8 million cases of Chlamydia are diagnosed in the US.
Around 50 percent of men in the US are suffering from Chlamydia infection. The symptoms of Chlamydia in men include discharge from the penis that can be white in color, greenish, or cloudy. In addition, the infected men experience pain while urinating and will have the urge to urinate frequently. The men will experience itching and burning sensation near the penis.
Usually women get this infection from men. So, when men are diagnosed with Chlamydia, they should avoid all forms of sex. This way they will not transmit the infection to their partners. Also, the partner should be tested for the infection and receive treatment. If Chlamydia in men is not treated, it can lead to inflammation of testicles. It can also cause infertility. It does not cause any complications in men, but it is better to be careful and get treatment as soon as possible.
