Therapy For Asperger

Asperger’s is a highly complicated neurological disorder which is heritable. It is caused due to the abnormal functioning of certain regions of the human brain. It is found that the ratio of males affected by the syndrome is four times that of the females.

There are some common signs that indicate that a victim is suffering from Asperger’s. For example, the individual does not care about whether the person who he or she is speaking to is really listening to him or her, or is interested in the topic. Sometimes, they require the help of the family members or friends to guide them in social gatherings while speaking to others.

The intellectual development of the patients retard after a certain age and hence, they may have weird ways of conversing like speaking the same sentences over and over again without making eye contact with the listener.

There is no specific treatment for this disorder. The medical expert needs to improve the mannerisms of the victims and adapt them to the accepted social norms. Hence, in order to treat this syndrome, the abnormal behavioral aspects of the individuals need to be analyzed first. Then the therapist guides the victim to alter their behavior and change their mannerisms through cognitive behavior therapy.

For example, the professional trains the individual to make eye contact while talking to another person. He or she is also trained to speak more naturally by regulating his voice tone and intonation. He or she is taught to use gestures and also differentiate between sarcasm and humor.
