Attention deficit disorder has become a widespread term lately. Clinically it can be termed as a behavioral disorder which originates from the age of 2 to 3 years. Its early symptoms are being colicky, irritable and not easy to control. Later while they start going to school these behavioral disorders further takes a form of inattentiveness, impulsiveness and hyper activeness. As it carries on further when they reach adulthood these behavioral disorders make them aggressive, bossy and self centered.
The symptoms of attention deficit disorder were first recognized in the year 1920 and since then lot of research have been done in the issue. There are countries which differ in the opinion and state various reasons and treatments for it. Despite all the debates, there are almost same theories put forth by all regarding the causes of this type of disorder. One of such theory states that it occurs due to an organic brain damage. This type of damage to the brain could be a result of any form of injury, lack of oxygen in the brain, any prenatal difficulty or contamination after delivery.
Other theory suggests that it happens because of any discrepancy in the working of neurotransmitters. In such a case person is advised to take stimulants like Ritalin, Dexedrine. These drugs are not good for long term use as it carries many side effects. In the year 1971, Wender found out that a flaw in the limbic regions of the brain shows the symptoms of over activeness. Sometimes genetic and external environmental factors can also be considered as a cause of attention deficit disorder in children.
