If the data contained in the book, “Barbie”, written by Sara Pendergast, is anything to go by, then it can be said that most of the American kids between the ages, 3 and 11 have at least 10 Barbie dolls each. Thus, it can be concluded that most American girls grow up keeping the image of Barbie in their minds. Subconsciously, they all imagine the body of Barbie while describing the ideal figure for themselves.
It has been examined that if Barbie was to be a real woman, her height would be 5 feet and 6 inches and would weigh around 120 pounds. Her statistics would be like 38-18-34, but in reality, an average woman measure 41-34-43. But the percentage of fat in her body would be so low that it would not be possible for her to menstruate.
There are a few people who are much influenced by the figure of Barbie. A case of one Cindy Jackson can be sited in this regard. She underwent about twenty plastic surgeries, amounting to nearly $55,000, to achieve the vital stats of Barbie. Though this may be an exceptional case but on an average, most girls’ are influenced by Barbie in some way or the other. Girls playing with doctor kit or health kit of Barbie in their childhood would at one point, want to become a doctor or a nurse later.
As far as the abnormal figure of Barbie is concerned, it certainly gave rise to disorders like bulimia and anorexia in young girls, most of them aged between 12 years and 25 years to attain that body. This is definitely not a good sign related to the body image influenced by Barbie.
