Bottle Feeding Tips For Newborn

Newborn babies not only bring joy to a family but also instill a sense of responsibility in the parents. One of the most sensitive works involved in taking care of a newborn child is to bottle feed him with milk and water regularly. It is a sensitive job as it involves taking note of certain factors to ensure safety and hygiene and also to make sure that whatever is being fed to the child is going inside his mouth and not here and there.

First of all, the bottles or the nipples to be used for feeding the baby should be checked properly before buying. Make sure that they are hygienic and of good quality.

Before giving the baby a bottle feed, make sure that it is in lukewarm state. Refrigerated milk can be dipped for a few minutes in warm water before giving it to the child. However, test how hot the milk is as hot milk may burn his lips or tongue.

Babies react differently to the process of bottle feeding and the sensation of a nipple being put into their mouth. That is why they different amount of time to gulp down the whole liquid given to them. They key skill a parent has to show during this time is patience. The baby should not be forced in any way to take in the whole food.

Sometimes, one may find that the baby is absolutely refusing to take the milk or water offered to him in a feeding bottle. Instead of forcing him to do that, try to understand if there is any other reason for this behavior. For example, he may be sick, or he wants to burp but cannot with his mouth stuffed with the nipple. Take the necessary actions gently and with much love and bottle-feeding a new born would not seem to be a big job.
