Breastfeeding is one of the unique phases of a woman’s life, which creates some lasting effects on both the mother as well as the baby’s lives. It is one of the most-practiced forms of baby-caring and nourishing. However, this method, like all the other things in the world, comes with some advantageous and disadvantageous points.
One of the main positive points about breast milk is that it is a unique and natural food designed especially to meet the specific requirements of an infant. Some of the components of this milk are so unique that they cannot be reproduced artificially but at the same time are essential for a baby’s proper nourishment. Also, the nutrients present in the mother’s milk are easily digestible by the baby and produce no harmful results.
Breast milk is the main source of antibodies in a baby. The immunity system of a baby in his early life is very weak to fight any foreign particles and thus is more vulnerable to various illnesses that affect a child. If he is subjected to breastfeeding regularly from the start, he will have much more strength to ward off the unwanted diseases from affecting him. It has been seen that babies taking in mother’s milk regularly develop less chances of acquiring asthma, diarrhea, constipation and eczema.
Disadvantages of feeding your baby with your own milk include passing off any viruses like HIV or hepatitis B, which you may have in your body, to your baby. The process may prove to be too stressful and tiring for some and may produce some pain on your nipples. Also, if you do not give sufficient amounts of breast milk to your child, he might develop weight problems later.
