Though it is believed that the lactating period of a woman, right after the delivery of his child is somehow an infertile phase for them, still some new mothers may get pregnant at this time. To be sure of this, the mother has to be alert for some signs and symptoms. Some of the symptoms like fatigue, heightened sense of smell, nausea and cramps, which are associated with pregnancy under normal conditions may also develop during the breastfeeding stage of your life.
Though it is normal for the nipples of your breast to become sore while feeding your baby, if you become pregnant at that time, they will tend to get sorer and pain more. You will understand this if you find that the whole breastfeeding process is proving to be a more difficult time than usual.
Also, take note of the kind of milk you are producing at that period. Pregnancy during breastfeeding can reduce the milk supply after about 2 weeks of gestation. The baby may also lose interest in taking that milk as the hormonal change in your body due to possible pregnancy may alter the taste and texture of the milk.
After a prolonged stop in periods during the previous pregnancy, most lactating mothers do not get back their menstruations a while after delivering the baby. However, if you happen to start off with your periods again and then miss one period on a certain month, it could indicate another pregnancy. It is best to look up a doctor or take up a pregnancy test if you develop any of the above symptoms, to be sure.
