There is a difference between puberty and adolescence. Both occur at different times. The latter completely transforms childhood into adulthood. Most of the other natural transformations like puberty, sexuality happen during the adolescent stage.

Puberty happens mostly and ideally in kids falling under the age group of 10-13 yrs. It should also end well before 21. Adolescence doe not just mean of physical change but also change in social, emotional and mental growth.

Most adolescents often understand responsibilities, separate form families and decide on their future life. Hormones are also released at this stage and leads to growth and sexual changes. Puberty changes in boys are accompanied with increase in height as well as weight. There will also be an increase in the size of genital organs followed by increase in facial hair. Boys tend to ejaculate and experience erection. The voice changes and becomes sterner. Girls experience breast and hip development followed by release of white sticky discharge. There are many other hormonal changes that they might experience and any such change should be considered natural. They need not be ashamed of anything.

Girls start menstruating which is an important requirement for pregnancy. Parents need to be extra careful with their children and need to frequently talk with them. Keep consulting your doctor and take advices which might work wonders for them. Encourage good discussions and make them aware about sex education. Never leave any of their curious questions unresolved. This is the stage when they will be more prone to health issues and accidents. Do make them aware of the consequences of smoking and doing drugs. Encourage them to get involved in sports and other extra-curricular activities.
