The process of implantation of the embryo to the uterine wall takes place about 8 to 10 days after ovulation. The symptoms of pregnancy can showcase at times as early as 3 to 4 days after this process or after a few weeks thereafter. There are also some extremely lucky women who experience no discomfort at all during pregnancy.

There are a few aspects that need to be understood well with respect to the pregnancy symptoms. Most signs are very similar to those that occur prior to menstruation. Therefore, there is a possibility of confusion. Also, despite experiencing many symptoms, one may not be pregnant at all. Therefore, the only assured first sign of pregnancy is a missed period and the urine or blood tests that follow.

One of the indications that many feel on conception is flu-like symptoms. The flu-like signs include mild fever, headache, body ache and tiredness. The main reason for the occurrence of these symptoms is hormonal change in the body of the pregnant lady. During pregnancy the HCG level rises from a zero to 250,000 mIU/ml within a time span of only 12 weeks. The level of progesterone in the body also increases. These hormonal variations make the body lethargic and at times cause high body temperature as well.

Sometimes, certain additional signs along with flu-like symptoms could be an indication of a bigger problem. Flu-like symptoms accompanied with loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea; dark-colored urine and pale bowel movements; stomach pain; skin and whites of eyes turning yellow, jaundice or liver problems could indicate a possibility of Hepatitis B. Flu symptoms along with chills, diarrhea, nausea, intense headache and stiff neck could signify Listeriosis and Toxoplasmosis. These are bacterial or parasitic infections caused primarily due to the consumption of raw or uncooked meat. There is a risk of these infections being transferred to the child. These problems can be detected by blood tests, and require antibiotic treatment in order to have a safe pregnancy.
