Antibiotics And First Trimester Of Pregnancy

The first trimester of a pregnancy is the first three months after the egg has been fertilized in the womb? It is the most delicate period for the baby. Some women discover that they are pregnant only after the first two months of missing their menstrual cycle and it is also the end of first trimester by then. So many women do not come to the realization that they are pregnant for the most part of their first trimester.

However, the baby does manage to survive just on the nutrition obtained from the mother's body in the mean time. A pregnant woman is given prenatal vitamins which are loaded with the many vitamins and folic acid. These things are essential for the mother and the baby.

However, other strong medications like antibiotics are avoided during the first trimester unless and until it is absolutely needed. Antibiotics could harm the fetus, which is still in a very delicate stage of its growth. Researches have shown that antibiotics can interfere with the brain development of the fetus and also mess up the immune system. So, most of the symptoms like fevers, cold and cough during the first trimester in a woman are treated using basic medications like acetaminophen. These are considered safe for the fetus and also the mother. However, if the illness is severe, then it is best for a doctor to decide the best course of treatment for the mother so that the fetus is unaffected. For any kind of illness, a pregnant woman should always consult the doctor first.
