Primary Drug Of Abuse Or Addiction

Drug abuse is a very serious and one of the most prevalent issues especially among the youngsters of today. They lead to addiction and cause various irreparable physical and psychological disorders. Methamphetamine, a popular stimulant among the teenagers, directly affects the central nervous system and is highly addictive.

The drug is easily available and is relatively inexpensive. This drug was widespread among the Hawaii inhabitants and western parts of the country and is slowly moving eastwards also. This results in devastating consequences and affects social and psychological behavior.

The common behavioral abnormalities include malnutrition, memory loss, psychotic behavior, aggression and dental problems. It also has increased the prevalence of HIV/AIDS and hepatitis. This is one of the drugs that have been responsible for child abuse and neglect, unemployment and crime.

Heroin is another illegal and addictive drug sold in its powdery form or as a black sticky substance also called "black tar heroin". Sometimes, they are mixed with quinine, starch, sugar or powdered milk. Overdose of this drug can cause death. In addition, there is a high risk of transmission of HIV and other STDs due to sharing needles for injecting. Heroin is injected, snorted or smoked and all forms of consumption are addictive. Typically, a heroin addicted victim uses the drug up to 4 times every day. In the recent years, the use of heroin has increased due to the decrease in the prices and is becoming more prevalent in the affluent classes of people.

Drug abuse leads to various complications like memory distortion, brain damage, lesser reflex action and sometimes death. Hence, various awareness programs have been designed to educate the people to refrain from substance abuse problems.
