The human body is very complex mechanism that, just like any other device needs appropriate directives to work well. One of the dynamisms of the health and fitness of the human body is its need for vitamins and minerals. Vitamins are any group of organic matter found in food and vital in small quantities for normal metabolism in the body.

Different vitamins provide different things to the human body. In humans, there are thirteen vitamins, among which four are fat-soluble namely, A, D, E and K, and nine water-soluble ones, which include eight B vitamins and vitamin C. 

The significance of vitamins in the human body cannot be over-emphasized. For example, Vitamin C stops scurvy, and also fights against infections like flu. Vitamin A assists healthy night vision, and absorption of Vitamin D. Vitamin D helps in the absorption of calcium in the body. Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7 and B9 help in the prevention of Beriberi, Ariboflavinosis, Pellagra, Paresthesia Anemia, peripheral neuropathy, Dermatitis, and birth defects respectively.
  

In addition, research confirms that certain vitamins are very essential for proper brain development as well as to help proper functioning of the human brain. For example, Vitamins C and E, when combined, have the capacity to assist in the prevention of memory loss. Vitamin B Complex on the other hand can give a positive result in the deterrence of Alzheimer’s disease, as well as in developing verbal memory. 

A deficiency of these vitamins can result in one being more prone to diseases, making wounds take longer to mend, can lead to bleeding gums, irritability and muscle weakness. Therefore, it is important to take care of one’s body by taking the specific amount of nutrients and vitamins that are needed to nourish it.
