Hypothyroidism And Dry Skin

Myxedema is another name of hypothyroidism that is simply a hormone deficient ailment, caused due to inadequate amounts of thyroxin in the body. It has numerous side effects on our body, especially on our skin. It lowers down the smoothness of the skin and makes our skin more dry and coarse. The basic symptom of this disease is that it makes one’s facial expression tedious and dull. It increases puffiness of skin that is horrendous.

Hypothyroidism is also due to lack of hormones in the body. Usually, it occurs at all ages, but the most prone are the oldies. The elderly people get affected by it due to lack of hormone called thyroxin, which also leads to depression, irritation, burning sensation and most decisively dryness of the skin. This disease causes many problems, which are not curable accurately, on the skin of human body. It closes the pores of the skin that makes it impossible to breathe, which eventually lead to dullness and roughness in the outer skin.

Sometimes, it also befalls to be the cause of pimples on the skin that does not look good in day to day life. Moreover, it also occurs due to the lesser amount of iodine in a diet. A diet deficient in iodine can indeed cause goiter that is a fatal disease in which the neck part of the body becomes engorged and swollen. Furthermore, goiter also has some side effects on the skin of the body due to which it is termed as fatal. There is an increment in the puffiness of skin. All this can be alleviated by consulting a good dermatologist and some endocrinologists, doctors specialized in hormones.

Lastly, keeping an old but highly apt cliché, ‘prevention is better than cure’ in mind can surely help you. Taking a highly nutritious diet, rich in all the vitamins and minerals, particularly vitamins A and C that makes your skin glow, is worthwhile. Maintain a healthy skin and a healthy lifestyle.
