What Is Treatment For Gonorrhea

What Is Treatment For Gonorrhea       Gonorrhea is sexually transmitted disease. It is a bacterial disease which is highly contagious in nature. It can affect males as well as females. A thick discharge from the penis or vagina is prevalent.

Along with the male reproductive organs and female genital tract, the rectum, throat, eyes, blood, skin and joints can also be affected. After going through a gonorrhea test, one can go for the required treatment as prescribed by the doctor. In the initial stage or period, a dose of antibiotics is recommended. It is quite possible to have chlamydia (another STI) along with gonorrhea. In fact, it is quite common for a person to have both the infections. In order to avoid re-infection it is advised that the sexual partner involved should also undergo the treatment. It is also essential not to indulge in unprotected vaginal, oral or anal sex until the treatment is complete and the infection is cured from its root.

If there are no signs of cure even after the medication has started, another gonorrhea infection might have affected the body, or the treatment might have failed. This is due to the fact that the gonorrhea bacteria become resistant to the antibiotics, and as result the prescribed antibiotics can no longer kill the bacteria. In such a situation it is advisable to go in for another gonorrhea test and start some other antibiotics. Once the treatment is completed, gonorrhea infection will not return unless a new infection is picked up. But it should be kept in mind that if proper treatment is not followed, gonorrhea can spread through various means like through bloodstream to other parts of the body and cause serious damage and problems.
