Weight Loss Plans For Celiac

Weight Loss Plans For Celiac

If you thought that those suffering from celiac disease must be naturally underweight, you will be surprised to know that as many as 39 percent of them are overweight. Thankfully, there are a number of healthy food choices, when it comes to a gluten free weight loss meal plan.

A celiac friendly diet aims to cut out all gluten containing foods like beer, bread, pizza, bagels, most breakfast cereals, crackers and pasta. With these out of the way, let us look at what a celiac patient can eat to lose weight. Fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables are always good, and so are eggs and unprocessed meats.

There are a whole lot of goodies that you do not need to miss out on, like rice crispies, corn tortillas, rice crackers, pasta made from gluten free wheat, rice or bean vermicelli, rice noodles, popcorn, buckwheat noodles, chocolate and plain corn chips. Choose breakfast cereals made from rice, corn, buckwheat, tapioca, rice bran, lentil flour, amaranth, polenta and soybeans, eat a lot of cheese (but not during the initial period of treatment), salad dressings, sauces, tomato paste, jam, honey, marmalade, molasses, sugar, cocoa and vinegar, and drink tea, coffee, spirits, wine, ciders, whiskey and brandy.

When shopping for food, be careful with what is written on the labels. Labels that say 'wheat free' does not automatically mean that they are gluten free. Similarly, avoid anything that says 'modified food starch', or else you may be bringing gluten home in your shopping bag.
