Remember the BRAT diet when you want to fight diarrhea -- it stands for bananas, rice, applesauce and toast. All these four foods, taken in the simplest form possible, can help make your stomach feel calmer and relive you of your digestive problems.
When eating any or all of the above mentioned foods to cure diarrhea, you must remember a few things; like when it comes to the bananas, choose ones that are firm and not too ripe and soft. The rice must be white and definitely not brown or else you will only be aggravating the condition of your stomach, applesauce that is unsweetened and does not contain cinnamon will work far better than flavored varieties, and finally, if you are eating toast to get rid of diarrhea, eat is plain and unbuttered.
The BRAT diet works very well because the fiber sugar and fat contents in these foods are very low, hence helpful in soothing the digestive system. Foods that have high starch content are also effective in putting an end to diarrhea, like cooked carrots, plain pasta and boiled potatoes. Other foods that you can eat to cure your condition are baked skinless chicken, hard boiled eggs, yoghurt, cold cereals without milk, oatmeal, cooked cream, of wheat cereal, and cups of warm chamomile or mint tea.
Even with the recommended foods, let your stomach tell you whether it likes them or not. Instead of forcing these foods down your throat, take small bites and see how you feel. Increase the portions gradually, based on how well they work in improving your condition.
