One of the main symptoms of liver disease is jaundice. The liver produces bile, which plays a very important role in breaking down the blood into energy and also purifying it.
The bile collects all the impurities of the blood and ejects them out of the body through the kidneys using the intestines. Bile is a yellow and greenish substance. The color of the normal feces is also yellowish brown in color due to presence of bile. When bile is not being produced or not functioning properly, it gets spread to the skin and tissues causing a yellowish color. This color can also be noticed in the eyes and it is characterized by jaundice or yellow fever. This is the biggest indicator that something is wrong with the liver.
The jaundice may be accompanied with some other infections like flu. This could indicate a problem with the gall bladder, and it has to be checked by a doctor immediately.
The symptoms of liver disease mainly depend on the type of disease. However, in general all disease shows discoloration of skin by getting a yellowish underlying tinge. The patient may also exhibit other signs like excessive fatigue, edema, and pain in abdomen. Some people experience itching also. This may be the beginning of the skin infection due to the impurities in blood. If all these symptoms are accompanied with weight loss and loss of appetite, then there is something to worry about.
People who have liver conditions are placed on strict diets. They are usually prescribed salt free and fat free diets.
