Symptoms Of Liver Failure

Liver is the biggest gland in the body and also one of the largest organs.

The liver has several important functions in the body like purifying the blood, giving out bile for digestion, producing enzymes for digestion and regulating the hormones in the body, and also breaking down the blood cells in order to convert them into energy. One of the biggest and the most important functions of the liver is to filter the blood and collect the impurities. The bile produced by liver flushes out these impurities into the intestine. When the liver fails to perform any of its function, one can notice an overall effect in the body. For example, when the liver stops producing bile, it leads to a condition called jaundice. The skin and the eyes develop a yellowish tinge and an unhealthy look. Jaundice is one of the main symptoms of liver failure. The yellowish tinge means that the impurities remain in the blood.

Some people experience severe abdominal cramps. These cramps may seem like spasms that are quite vigorous and also occur fast. It can be confused with appendicitis, but this type of spasmodic pain is accompanied with vomiting and also edema. Liver also absorbs salt and sends them out in the form of water. When the liver is not functioning properly the salt is retained and the water in the body also is retained. This causes the abdomen and the legs to swell up.

The final stages of liver failure show more severe symptoms like vomiting of blood, breathlessness and extreme fatigue including unconsciousness.
