Basic First Aid To Teach Children

Even children should be taught some basic first aid principles as it is very important. Children get hurt all the time because they are highly active. If a child is old enough to handle medicines, then they should be taught how to handle a dangerous situation like fire break out and also how to treat minor cuts, scrape and burns.

However, an instruction based teaching method might be quite boring for children. Schools and parents should actually make it more interesting by giving puzzles and cross words based on first aid. Some of the things that kids should learn are basic CPR in case a person at home faints or is having a stroke the kids should know what to do. And more importantly they should learn to identify the symptoms.

They should also be taught how to handle band-aid and tying a bandage or gauze on a wound. They should know when to tie a gauze bandage and when not to. For example, for burns, it is always best to keep it open because the gauze bandage will stick to the wound other wise. Open cuts should be bandaged because they will get septic.

They should also know how to handle antiseptic lotions and spirits and when to use them. Also, kids should be taught that they should was their hands thoroughly after using medicines and treating a wound. Personal hygiene is the most important that comes before and after first aid measures. Children naturally are fast learners and once they learn how to use first aid they will be equipped to take care of themselves in many situations.
