Many people who are into running either as a sport or competitively want to know does shaving your legs help you run faster. While there are some who agree that shaving your legs can help you run faster, there are others, especially those into competitive running, who disagree with this.

While swimmers and cyclists have been known to shave their legs to make their body more aerodynamic, when it comes to running, this logic does not apply. However, many runners do shave their legs because it makes them feel nice about themselves. There are claims that long distance runners as well as extremely short distance runners do benefit from shaving their legs because it does cause them to run faster. However, this increase in speed is infinitesimal and therefore, cannot make a huge difference.

The main reason that runners, especially professional runners, shave their legs is not for speed. It more for massage as having a massage after running helps to ease out the stretched muscles and massage on a hairless leg is more effective. In addition, long distance runners shave their legs if they fall down, the healing process will be fasters as hairless legs are easier to clean and bandage.

So, if you are planning to shave your legs to help you run faster, think again. This may not be the answer that you are looking for. Maybe speed training is something you should pay more attention to rather than looking for an easy way out. However, if you want to feel good and draw compliments to your smooth legs, shaving may be right for you but be warned, it will not help you run faster.
