If you go to a fast food establishment, it goes without saying that you have to have a portion of French fries. We know that fast food contain so many calories that eating them regularly will make you put on weight. But can French fries make you gain weight? The answer is yes.

French fries are cooked in fat and contain a lot of saturated fats that contribute to weight gain. Did you know that an average American child gets 25 percent of his vegetables through French fries? That would explain why child obesity is so widespread in the US.

An adult American consumes as much as 4 servings of French fries each week and a portion of French fries contains around 187 calories. This would add up to 68,000 calories a year and a massive 20 pound weight gain.

Most Americans consume more carbohydrates than what is the recommended daily allowance. This extra carbohydrate gets converted into fat and is stored in the body for future use. Potatoes are complex carbohydrates and when eaten in healthy form, are in fact beneficial for health. However, when potato is eaten as French fries all the fats present in the fries get converted to fat and is stored in the body. Considering our sedentary lifestyle and lack of exercise, it is not before long all the French fries consumption starts showing as rolls of fat.

In addition, French fries contain so many preservatives and chemical compounds which metabolize very slowly in the body and are considered harmful for the body.
