Like any commodity sodium too has many positive and negative aspects to itself. It is really an important constituent in our body. However, one must not forget that under-consumption of certain foods can surely create lot of problems. The major problem that is caused due to decrease in sodium level is hyponatremia, whereby there is a shortage of sodium in the exteriors of cells.

Sodium is very important for everybody as it really takes control of blood pressure, nerve functions and muscle contraction. Due to low sodium level the extra-cellular fluids will definitely enter the cell forming swelling. In case of the brain, if swelling occurs it leads to huge problems. It can also lead to death if not dealt immediately. There are many other problems such as euvolemic hyponatremia, whereby the total body water will increase without the sodium level increasing.

Hypervolemic hyponatremia is a situation where by both water and sodium levels increase without a proper proportion. The other case is hypovolemic hyponatremia which is caused due to shortage of both water and sodium. There are other major problems like constant vomiting and diarrhea, sweating, liver cirrhosis, kidney disorders, congestive heart issues and urinary problems. Sodium is also lost through sweat and urine. Hence, it is necessary that the balance is always maintained.

The other issues with low sodium level are headache, fatigue, convulsions, anemia, irritability, appetite loss, muscle weakness, confusion, coma, hallucinations, and nausea, weakness and spasm issues. Hence, make sure that you consume sodium to the required proportion and not too more also. Any constituent that is consumed more than necessary can also cause problem.
