Many foot and hip pain conditions are more painful in the morning, particularly when getting out of bed in the morning. Being off the feet for prolonged periods of time relives pain, however when weight is placed on the feet and hips for the first time in the morning pain can be the most severe.
Both heel and hip pains can happen for a number of different reasons which are difficult to diagnose.
Sometimes heel pain sufferers may not realize they have an injury until they notice tenderness and swelling. This is sometimes an indication that they have a heel spur, plantar fasciitis, or related heel injury.
Sometimes, a nerve in the foot can cause pain, as well as numbness or tingling throughout the foot. This could indicate Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome, but in few cases can also occur as a result of a heel spur interfering with a nerve in the heel.
Pain in the front underside of the heel is often a good indication of plantar fasciitis or the development of a heel spur. Pain in the back of the heel is usually an indication of Achilles tendonitis. Pain in the lower back portion of the underside of the heel can indicate the occurrence of Severs Disease.
Anterior hip pain is a common complaint with many possible causes. Muscle and tendon strains are common in adults. Subsequent to accurate diagnosis, strains should improve with rest and directed conservative treatment.
Typically, the pain is worse in the morning and improves with activity, although activity limitation also occurs.
If the pain is particularly acute, then it is advisable to visit a physician for proper identification of the cause. At times, if the cause is relatively simple, the pain could be resolved with suitable rest or stretching exercises first thing in the morning.
