Adolescent is a stage where the child is not a teenager or an adult and is somewhere in between. It is a very difficult age among children and parents usually deal with several issues with children at this age.
An exceptional child at this age can be quite a handful and if they are not potty trained by that age, it can be very difficult for the parents to cope with them.
Also, exceptional children usually are prone to having bladder problems and toilet training is all the more difficult. However, only the child’s parent can potty train even at adolescence and it is very crucial that they do it.
It is possible to potty train even severely retarded children if the parent is focused. Develop a schedule for your child and make sure everything goes according to the schedule. The first thing you should do as soon as your child wakes up is take him or her to the bathroom and ease them on to the potty seat. Make sure you do this every single day until they begin to do it on their own. This could take a very long time and even months in some cases. Also, make sure that all their meals are on time so that the bowel movements are regularized in them. In addition, try and observe the timings of their urination and stools so that you can schedule the bathroom trips around that time. It becomes easy once hey have a standard time table to follow and even the teenager would get trained much faster if there is a regular time table.
