Hormonal changes increases blood flow to the breasts and nipples due to which the nipples become tender and sensitive. Your nipples will grow larger and become more erect in order to feed the baby. Hormones in your body are preparing your nipples for lactation. The nipples and areola becomes dark in color, due to hormones that affect pigmentation of the skin. The milk ducts grows in size as they get filled with milk during second trimester.
