Children have an inbuilt immune system which defends their body from foreign invaders such as bacteria, microbes, viruses, toxins and parasites. The immune system does a great job in keeping kids healthy. But sometimes problems with immune system can lead to illness and serious infection.

Although immune system disorder usually cannot be prevented, you can help your kid to strengthen their immune system and fight illness by taking few simple basic steps:

Feed your kid a nutritionally balanced diet:

Add plenty of fresh fruits, leafy vegetables, vitamin C, beta carotene and cod liver oil in your kids’ diet as these nutrients have immune boosting effects. Vitamin C and beta carotene increases the production of antibodies, white blood cells and the number of infection-fighting cells in the body while omega 3 fat supplements in form of fish oils or cod liver oil establishes healthy cell membranes that prevent inflammation and resists toxins and attack by pathogens.

Encourage your kid to be physically active:

Regular, moderate exercise can increase the production of bacteria-fighting cells and helps immune cells circulate through the body faster. Playing outdoor games and participating in sports like swimming or running boosts immune system of your body.

Reduce the amount of stress in kid's life:

Prolonged mental stress in kids can suppress their immune systems. The best way to keep your child stress free is by encouraging them to practice meditation and relaxing techniques and engage them in solacing activities such as playing with pet, painting or gardening.

Encourage your kid to get sound sleep:

Sound sleep is very important for development of strong immune system. Preschool children should get 11 to 13 hours of sleep each day while elementary school children should get 10 to 11 hours of sleep every day.
