Older people are often weak and do not have the strength to do many things in their life. Also, given the current statistics of the aging population, the number of people who will be in the age group of 65 in the next 10 years is going to be nearly three times the number of other normal middle aged people.

As people grow old, their weakening muscles and stamina hinder their lives to a great extent. Aging is a normal process and one cannot avoid it. At 65 people cannot do the things with the same vigor as they did when they were at 40. Assistive devices help people in many ways and also different kinds of people. Assistive devices are used for physically challenged people, mentally handicapped people and also old aged people can use it.

Take the example of the mechanical chair; it can be used by several people who are too old to be walking and also the physically challenged people can use it to their benefit. The assistive devices can compensate to a large extent the physical disability and also promote independence in older people. It also invariably ends up increasing the quality of life for them.

There are several kinds of simple assistive aids to carry on with daily life like electronic can openers, kitchen gadgets, walking equipment, listening aids and even entertainment aids. Today several people are paying attention to the needs of the physically disabled and challenged people and so many products are being manufactured keeping them in mind.
