Generation Gap And New Technologies

Generation Gap And New Technologies

When it comes to newer technologies the generation gap can be clearly outlined. The generations Y, for example, are people who belong to the age group of 28 and under. Most of them, being born during the technology boom, do not find it very difficult to keep in pace with the constantly changing IT scenario and new technology.

Baby boomers find it most difficult to cope with the constantly changing technology and the by the time they get used to something new there is something else waiting.

New technologies are constantly being introduced and, for example, the baby boomers do not find it very easy to use the touch screen, or the plasma televisions or even the modern remotes. Blue tooth is a very complicated device for them. However, they find it most comfortable to keep their old television set and their own remote for watching TV. Generation Y would find it ancient and also extremely uncomfortable to use the age old technology.

As the newer technologies increase the older generation is going to find it more difficult to cope with. At work place the difference is easily noticed because the baby boomers find it more difficult to use modern devices like the black berry and modern mobile phones. Laptop is another device many find it difficult to adjust to. Also, baby boomers do not consider the newer processes like blogging at workplace for example as an acceptable practice. There are several such instances where two generations that are wide apart think completely differently.
