Elderly Driving Laws

If your parents wear glasses or are not able to walk much, then they pose a potential risk while driving. It tells about their fitness that could add to the other age related risk factors. There is more likelihood of accidents among such elderly drivers and it is a good idea to persuade them to avoid driving.

Rules and regulations and the driving laws differ from place to place. In certain places, the specific rules for older drivers do not allow any renewal by mail or internet if the concerned person is above the age of 70. This renewal is applicable only for drivers who are not senior citizens and are not on probation period of driving and a license can be renewed in a row of two terms for a standard driving license.

There are rules and regulations that have to be followed by the Director of Motor Vehicles to maintain the law and order while approving a license for elderly people. Courses for improving the standards of safe driving have to be designed.  They have to be encouraged to pass the visual tests and written tests successfully. The concerned driver should have a visual capacity of 20/200 as per the bill specifically. They are not allowed to use a bioptic telescopic or any lens to make over for this accuracy. Driving tests are also equally important.

With proper implementation of the driving laws for the elderly one can expect a safe driving for the elders who are driving as well as for the others on the road.
