Back Injury And Car Accident

Many of the car accidents end up in the victim suffering from serious back injuries. In certain cases, the damage to the body is so severe that these back injuries lead to some kind of disability in the long term. This is found to be true if the accident has occurred due to collisions at the rear end of the car or when the vehicle hits a static object or it is broad sided by some other vehicle.

Whiplash, affecting more than 1 million individuals, is one of the most common kinds of injury due to car accidents. Whiplash is an injury wherein the victim’s head is violently pushed forward and is suddenly thrown back to its original position in just a few seconds. This results in severe damage of joints, nerves, neck ligaments, muscles as well as discs. If the victim’s head was turned to a side during the accident, the injury is much more serious. Sometimes, the whiplash injury is difficult to diagnose.

Victims of back injuries suffer from spasms in the neck muscles as well as the upper back muscles and pain in the neck at the base or while turning one’s head. The patient may also feel a strain in the lower back area.

Spinal cord injuries are also common during car accidents due to excessive pressure, bruises or specific injuries in cervical spinal cord arising because of the sudden violent impact. If the underlying injury is not diagnosed early enough, it may lead to severe complications in the future.
