Slip and fall can occur anywhere at anytime. Usually a slip occurs where the surface is slippery or when the friction between the shoes and the surface is not enough. A fall usually happens from an elevated place. Sometimes, it can occur on a plane surface.

When such incident occurs at a property which does not belong to you, there is a possibility of filing a lawsuit. Slip and fall can happen under hazardous condition like water, ice and snow. Uneven flooring and insufficient lighting are other reasons of slip and fall accidents. Surfaces which are too slippery due to excess waxing are also a risk. When water or any other liquid spills on the floor and goes unnoticed, it may cause a person to slip and fall. Staircases without side railings or those which are open, worn out or have cracked surfaces and edges are also major causes of slip and fall accidents. Also, stairs that are not built according to the standard safety norms are a risk. Dysfunctional escalators, elevators where the floor and the entrance or exit are not in the same line can cause a person to trip and fall. A surface that is paved and has potholes or uneven cracks also causes slip and fall accidents. Carpets that are worn out with holes and snags can lead to unexpected falls and slips.

Sometimes snow or ice that pile up on the sidewalks and are not removed within a stipulated time period can also cause slip and fall accidents. Many other hazardous conditions which have the potential to harm or have not been properly repaired or removed by the owner or the business establishment are some indirect causes of slip and fall accidents.
