Burial Benefits For Military Veterans

Burial Benefits For Military Veterans

The Department of Veteran Affairs usually looks into burials and other related services for military veterans. There is a separate veterans' cemetery and in order to be cremated or buried in it, there are specific arrangements that have to be made.

However, it is good to know information that the VA does not make any funeral arrangements. The families should make this arrangement themselves and the expenses also have to be taken care of. There are totally 131 national burial cemeteries owned by the VA throughout the entire United States. Also, the burial facilities are limited to the amount of space available and whether there is an opening for reservation.

However, as a veteran you can avail some benefits like a government headstone or marker, a burial flag and a presidential memorial certificate. All this comes at no cost for the family. Some of the veterans may also be eligible for the burial allowances and the cremated remains are also buried in national cemeteries. The burial benefits for spouse and children depend on whether the respective person opted for it or not. Burial benefits for veterans are also available in private cemeteries. They include everything that a regular veteran cemetery would include. However, in order to be buried with veteran benefits, the dead person should meet some preset criteria, so that these benefits can be rendered to them. The list of benefits is listed on the Veteran Affairs website of the state. Usually all states have their own Veteran Administration.
