The leading causes of death in the US change according to the age group and there is no common consensus for every one. However, among all age groups one of the most common factors for death is illnesses of various types. For example, in the year 2004 in the US the leading cause of death was accidents. Then after a couple of years it was illnesses, like cancer and heart diseases.

The causes for death also differ based on the gender. Here are some of the leading causes of death for men and women as a common factor in the United States of America.

  • Due to heart disease around 653,486 people died in the year 2007. Out of these 321,973 were makes and 330,513 were females.
  • About 553,888 deaths took place due to malignant neoplasms, and out of this 286,830 were men and 267,058 were women.
  • On account of cerebrovascular diseases some 150,074 deaths occurred in the year 2007. Out of these 72,050 were males, while 91,274 were females.
  • Chronic lower respiratory diseases were responsible for 121,987 deaths; 58,800 were men and 63,341 were females.

As it is visible from the above data that heart diseases are the leading cause of death when it comes to Americans. This is true for both men and women. Hence, the health authorities and the government are making an effort to educate people on leading a healthy lifestyle, doing exercise regularly and eating healthily. If people follow these steps, the death due to heart disease will surely come down.
