Grand parenting is an art and only few grandparents actually play their role right. Grand parenting is not only about love and having a good time with a grandchild. There are several responsibilities that a grandparent has to fulfill. Many grandparents can actually look forward to playing a positive role in their grandchildren’s lives.
It is important for a grandparent to always agree with the child's parents and not go against the parent’s wishes. It is very important to have a healthy relationship with the grandchild and set the right precedent for a meaningful relationship.
Grandchildren need a lot of love and not pampering. Do not pamper them to the extent where the parents cannot match up. In other words, do not create an example for them which the parent cannot be. Giving into all whims and fancies of children will only spoil them and that is not positive grand parenting. There is no limit on how much love you should give but it need not be always be materialistic.
Grandparents need to discipline young children now and then. They also need to be cooperative with their parents to inculcate the right habits and values in the children. They should always do what is best for the children and not what suits their age and wants.
Grandparents should try to extend their values and ethics to their grandchildren in such a way so that they do not end up thinking that their world is not right. It is very important because children are growing up in different circumstances and many of the things that they do may be right for them and a grandparent should be able to conceive this possibility.
