Senior Sexual ChangeAlthough aging will change the body’s sexual functions and affect the desire for lovemaking, senior sex can still be a pleasurable and immensely enjoyable experience and can satisfy your desires for intimacy.
In aging men, owing to the decreasing testosterone levels, there is reduces interest for intimacy and diminished drive for any form of sexual activities. It takes longer for them to get stimulated and achieve a full erection. Once the erection is achieved, maintaining the erection is yet another problem. Older men not only suffer because of very short orgasms, but also experience the absence of nocturnal and early morning spontaneous erections, secondary impotence, delayed erectile response, partial or soft erections, reduced ejaculate and loss of libido.
Similarly, in aging women, owing to the reduced estrogen levels, there is a phenomenal change in their behavior, needs, and desires for intimacy after menopause. Regular episodes of hot flashes, vaginal dryness, decreased orgasmic ability, insomnia, and emotional changes such as increased irritability, sudden mood swings, and loss of libido cause a senior woman to become very dry and frigid.
Apart from the normal changes that occur in the human body as a part of aging, these are certain health related and stress related factors also that can have a big impact on the sex life and the sexual performance of the individual. If either partner is in chronic pain owing to a serious health condition such as heart disease or arthritis, then in such cases, maintaining an active and intimate sex life becomes even more challenging.
