Courtship Vs Flirting

Courtship relates to the period before the engagement or marriage where the boy and the girl are allowed to meet each other with prior approval from both parents whereas flirting is a kind of interaction where one person may indicate a romantic or sexual interest in a person of the opposite sex, something that may or may not be shared by the other person.

In case of courtship, the couple is allowed to go on dates for dinner or movies or to visit friends. The prime objective of courtship is a serious one, i.e. to get to know your partner better before entering into a marriage. The same cannot be said so for flirting. In case of flirting, the person who is trying to flirt may be just doing it for the sake of fun and may not be even seriously interested in the person he is flirting with.

While courtship may help one choose one’s life partner, flirting is just about casualness and in some cases flirting can also cause a heartbreak because one of the parties may take the casual flirting seriously and get emotionally hurt in the process.  In some cases, during the courtship period the couple may realize that they are not compatible and may call it quits, but flirting is not done with any such serious intention and generally does not lead to major relationships.

While most couples who have been through courtship periods will cherish such moments and recall them with much fondness, but flirting is not something worth remembering because it may not involve any special person at all.
