Treatment Ovarian Cyst Rupture

When a patient is brought to a hospital for treatment of a ruptured ovarian cyst the team of doctors attending the patient first examines the extent of damage that it has created. The doctors first ascertain that whether or not it has developed any other complications accordingly the treatment is done. In case of emergency, the patient's condition is first stabilized. The doctors review the breathing cycle and blood circulation and if required put them on intravenous treatment.

The prime treatment for a patient with ruptured ovarian cyst is administration of antibiotics either intravenous or orally depending on the seriousness of the case. A strong antibiotic, Gentamycin or its substitutes is administered for short term. This antibiotic has a slight healing capability therefore for a longer treatment a broad spectrum penicillin variants can be used or a cephalosporin drug, like Cefotetan, which can kill gram positive cocci bacteria and gram negative rod bacteria.

For the women who have not entered the menopause, they are treated with oral contraceptive medicines to prevent ovulation. Ovulation stimulates the ovaries and increases the risks of ovarian cysts. However, do not worry. This treatment is not a permanent and whenever one wants to become pregnant, the same may be discussed with the doctor.

As stated earlier the prime concern of the doctors attending to a patient with ruptured ovarian cyst is preventing infection caused due to the busting of the sac. Hence, the patient is first put on antibiotics. This condition is also associated with acute pain and therefore, the management of pain is the second concern for the doctors. Initially strong analgesics like Fentanyl or Vicodin is given. After the pain stabilizes, mild to moderate pain killers are given. Once the condition improves the patient is subjected to various abdominal tests to ascertain the position of the cyst.
