What Is The Life Expectancy Of A Mosquito

Mosquitoes experience an entire transformation throughout their short-lived life cycle. The life sequence of a mosquito starts at the moment, the females lay their eggs on or in close proximity to water.

The undeveloped phase sets in motion when the eggs originate into larvae. Nearly every larva has an air tube that breaks through the water shell permitting them to respire. Larvae grow in the course of four development phases by shedding and thereafter changes into pupae. The life span of pupae survives only for a day prior to becoming adults. After the adult is all set to come out, they ascend out of an opening from the pupae shell and come onto the water surface. At this moment the adult is extremely delicate. Hence, they need to stay motionless until their bodies solidify, and thus allow them to fly. After the adults start flying, pairing starts taking place and the life cycle starts again.

Only female mosquitoes bite because they require protein rich blood meals for their egg growth; nevertheless, both male and female mosquitoes feed on flower nectar. The majority species of an adult mosquito have life expectancy from three to four weeks.

The standard life span for these insects fluctuates between different species, but characteristically the females survive for three to hundred days and the males subsist for ten to twenty days.

By and large mosquitoes survive anywhere from four days to a month depending upon temperatures and adjustment to its circumstances. Their average life span is from 10 - 14 days. Nonetheless, if they cope to get away from predators, female mosquito species can survive to about two to three months.
