Coronary Heart Disease Diagrams

Coronary heart disease is a condition in which there is not enough blood circulation to the cardiac muscles and the adjoining tissues. It is the most common type of heart disease today and is being cited as the cause for early deaths in Europe, North and South America, Russia, Australia, New Zealand and in other countries. In fact, it has become the leading cause for the death of men and women in the United States.

The reason for the cause for coronary heart disease or CHD is atherosclerosis. In this condition, fatty deposits build up on the wall of the arteries, which leads to narrowing of the blood vessels and eventual reduction in blood circulation.  There may be various reasons as to why atherosclerosis occurs in men and women. Some of the common causes include diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, smoking and so on. The common symptoms of CHD include chest pain, short of breath and heart attack.

Some of the common images or diagrams obtained which help doctors in diagnosing this condition are Coronary Angiogram, Electrocardiogram or ECG, Magnetic Resonance Angiogram, Echocardiogram, Nuclear Scan and so on.

A coronary angiogram is a heart catheter procedure which uses a catheter to obtain X-ray images of the affected areas. An Electrocardiogram helps in recording the electrical activity of the heart. This is done with the help of electrodes attached to different parts of the body. An MRI scan gives a very detailed image of the heart. The scanner uses a magnetic field and radio waves to produce this detailed image.
