The Maine Coon cats are known for their fuzzy and furry tails. More often people feel that the cat is lesser prominent compared to the tail. These felines groom themselves well. They still enjoy grooming especially if they are show-cats. They have a coat which is water resistant and which does not shed frequently. They need care and grooming in the spring-fall when they usually shed their coat.
Some of the articles required for grooming their coat are de-matting combs, metal comb, grooming rake, flea comb, clipper, cotton balls, seam rippers, baking soda, white vinegar and a hair dryer.
Metal combs will enable detangling and de-knotting. One should start from the tangle and not the root while holding the tangle close to the skin. A seam ripper will assist in reaching into the clump for separating the fur.
Dead under-coat can be removed using the grooming rake. One should be careful while working on the fur on the tummy and tail. Cotton balls can be used to clean their eyes. The cotton balls or ear-buds can be used to clean the ears. Cotton can be dipped in to a solution made using equal portions of apple cider vinegar and warm water and cleaned for clean and infection free ears. The area of the face should be cleaned with a damp cloth.
The doo particles which may be stuck on the fur of the tail can be removed using cotton to drip white vinegar and spreading baking powder on it. When this is dried with a drier, and combed, the doo will come off.
