Goldfish are known for its low maintenance and hence they are the choice of many first time breeders. No doubt that these require less maintenance but still they need some amount of care and attention. You can keep a goldfish in a simple bowl. You may not even need an air pump or any filter. Goldfish do quite well in room temperature. They do not need any heaters either.
The bowl in which you have kept the goldfish should not be kept directly under the sunlight or air vents. Too much of sunlight can result in overgrowth of algae. This can harm the goldfish.
The water for the goldfish should be changed often. Every week ensure that at least twenty percent of the water from the bowl is replaced with clean and fresh water. The best thing would be to transfer the goldfish from one bowl to another at least once in a month.
Feeding goldfish is quite easy because they can eat anything given to them. They however prefer to have vegetarian feast. The most common flake food is quite sufficient for them. You have to feed them two times in a day not more than that. While feeding them ensure that feed should be given in such a way that they are able to consume them within a five minute time period.
Remember it is not a good thing to mix goldfish with other varieties in the same bowl. Although they can get along well with other fishes, being small in size and slow swimmers, they can be easily picked up by other bigger varieties.
