What Do Flea Bites Look Like ?
Fleas are small red colored creatures. These parasites feed on the host’s circulatory system. Blood forms their primary source of nourishment. They mostly infest pets like cats and dogs. They can attack humans as well (if found in large numbers).
Fleas lay their eggs on carpets, furnishings and clothing. Periodic cleaning and dusting is necessary to kill these tiny creatures. Carpets and rugs have to be vacuum cleaned. Make sure that fleas do not affect your pet. If you notice fleas on your pet’s fur, then a visit to a veterinarian is necessary. Periodic cleaning with anti flea shampoos and anti flea medications is crucial for your pet’s well-being.
Fleas act as vectors and carry several communicable diseases. They can transmit bubonic plague and murine typhus to humans. Fleas make a hole on the skin, draw blood out and inject other deadly microorganisms/pathogens into the blood system. A flea bite will look a small hole surrounded by a red halo.
The flea injects an anti-coagulant present in its saliva. This anticoagulant will prevent the blood from clotting up. The fleas can therefore easily feast on liquid blood. They rapidly move around the skin and bite repeatedly leaving numerous red halos with a hole in the center. Knees, elbows, legs waist, and armpits are easily susceptible to flea attacks. Itching is normal but the person should immediately take precautions to prevent the spread of the infection. Itching and scratching will lead to deterioration and spread of the disease. Using hydrocortisone creams and washing the affected area with anti bacterial soap is recommended.
