Scientific Name For Howler Monkey
Howler monkeys are spread in various parts of the world especially in the rainforests of South America. They can usually grow and attain a length between 56 and 92 cm which doesn’t include their tail which could be as long as their bodies and they can weigh anything between 10 and 20 lbs. |
They usually live in groups which consist of ten to twenty such individuals. In the group, the number of females is much higher as compared to males. These monkeys are known for their howling as their voice is very loud and they are audible even from a very large distance. The usual practice of howling appears to be at peak during the dusk and dawn. On an average, these monkeys have a lifespan of around fifteen to twenty years.
Howler monkeys are known as Alouatta caraya in the scientific language or terms. This species further include nine more species of howler monkeys that are native to Central and South American forests. They are originally characterized by their loud howling sound that is made by them.
There are some really interesting facts about these howler monkeys such as the fact that they can be heard from as far as three miles and they are considered to be the loudest animal on this land as per the Guinness Book of World Records. Apart from being the loudest of all, they are also the laziest. There are various other such facts that would amaze people apart from providing them additional information about these howler monkeys.
