Michael Owen Biography
Michael Owen was born to Terry and Jeanette on 14th December 1979. Michael was introduced to the game early in his childhood by his father, who himself was a professional soccer player, albeit retired. Terry was quick to notice Michael interest in playing football and guided him. By the time Michael reached the age of ten, many talent scouts were following his progress. He joined Liverpool club immediately after his juniors in 1996. Owen was selected to represent the England national team in the year 1998 when he was just 18 years old.
He imposed his authority on this beautiful game with an outstanding goal against Argentina during the World Cup in the year 1998. However, it was in the year 2001 that he showed how valuable an asset he was to his club side. Riding on the back of some great football artistry of Owen, Liverpool was able to claim 3 successive championships, League Cup, FA Cup and the UEFA championship. This top class performance earned him the European Footballer of the Year award. In the World Cup the same year, Owen scored a hat-trick of goals against Germany in a decisive qualifier.
His association with Liverpool was to remain till 2004, after which he joined Real Madrid, Spain for 8 million pounds in 2004 August, and then the following year, he was sold to Newcastle United for a whopping 15 million pounds.
He was constantly suffering from injuries and that seemed to affect his game. Despite injuries he did manage to give some standout performances.
In 2009 July, Owen joined the Red Devils, Manchester United, and is on a 2 year contract.
