Where Does Oprah Winfrey Live Now ?

In the history of American television, there has never been a more successful female talk show host as Oprah Winfrey. She is the first African American to own her own TV studio.

The multitalented Winfrey is also a billionaire businesswoman, a talented actress, owner of a movie production company and committed philanthropist. Oprah's production company is named Harpo Productions, which is actually her own name spelt backwards.

Oprah Gail Winfrey was born on January 29, 1954 on a farm in Mississippi. She was originally named ‘Orpah’ from the Bible, but owing to difficulty in pronouncing the name or some other unknown reason, she has been known as Oprah almost from birth. Her unmarried parents, Vernon Winfrey and Vernita Lee, separated soon after she was born.

In the early years of her childhood, she was raised by her maternal grandmother. Although she was an uneducated woman but she gave Oprah the knowledge of the Bible. At the age of 6, Winfrey started living with her mother in Milwaukee. During this time, she was sexually abused by a teenage cousin and then by other male relatives and friends. These appalling incidents left enduring scars on her personality. She also carried a baby boy at the age of 14, whom she lost in infancy itself. It seemed Winfrey was heading down a road of destruction until her mother sent her to live with her father in Nashville at the age of 14. According to Oprah, her father was a life savior. He was very strict and gave education top priority. He provided her with guidance, structure, rules and books. He required his daughter to complete weekly book reports and she went without dinner until she learned five new vocabulary words each day. In 1976, she graduated with a degree in speech communications and theater from Tennessee State University.

It was in the early 1970’s that Winfrey went into broadcasting, a career option she had long decided upon. After anchoring and reporting TV news in Nashville, Tennessee, Baltimore, Maryland; she obtained a job on the morning show of A.M. Chicago in 1984. The subsequent year saw her in her debut role in the movie, The Color Purple. She was also nominated for an Oscar for the same. In no time, Winfrey transformed the talk show market with her unique and natural style. She gradually rose in her professional field and reached the pinnacle by launching ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’, the most watched daytime show on television. The show features celebrity interviews and discussions on social issues. It is reported to have 22 million viewers daily, out of which three-fourths are women. The mammoth success of the show has today made her one of the richest women in the United States. ‘Oprah's Book Club’, a feature of her show highlighting new books, became famous for its ability to create bestsellers. In the year 2000, she published her own lifestyle magazine, O.

Oprah Winfrey has many houses. Since her show is based in Chicago, she spends time there, specifically in the neighborhood of Streeterville, but she otherwise resides in California. She currently lives on ‘The Promised Land’, her 42-acre (170,000 m²) estate with ocean and mountain views in Montecito, California, outside of Santa Barbara. She also owns a house in Lavallette, New Jersey; an apartment in Chicago; a house in Doughlasville Georgia; a ski house in Telluride, Colorado; a home on the island of Antigua and another one in Avalon, New Jersey.

She has many other properties as well. She owns an estate on Fisher Island off the coast of Miami and a property on the island of Maui Hawaii. Her Hawaii property was featured on the cover of O at Home and on her TV show. Oprah is an exceptionally famous and affluent person but this acclaim is well earned and well deserved.
