Abraham Lincoln Biography
Abraham Lincoln was born in a farm of rural Hardin. Lincoln, during his early years, worked along with his father in his farms and learnt all kinds of literature possible during that span of time. This self education of Lincoln was probably much better than other kinds that would have attained by him at schools. |
As he was born to the parents who considered slave trade as a shameful practice, he always had this in his mind that he needed to abolish this practice. This is one feature of his personality that brought him immense popularity and appreciation. He is still remembered as one of the most impressive presidents of the U.S.
He always had to make double efforts as compared to people from well connected families in order to get the position of a lawyer that he had in state of Illinois and after this as one of the congressmen for his state. Despite the fact that he lacked the formal education, his debating and oratory skills brought him great recognition. In the year 1858, he was awarded nomination for the post of president and thus began his journey as the foremost Republican President in the U.S.
In 1863, he issued Emancipation Proclamation, an amendment in the constitution declaring all slaves as free men. In 1864, after the famous civil war came to an end he was again chosen as the president. His efforts to rebuild southerners are still remembered and are considered as the most generous, amazing and encouraging efforts towards them for moving ahead with all their dignity and liberties. He made several recognizable changes in the history of U.S governance and is still completely admired and loved by the people; ‘Great Emancipator’ is what people still call him.
